In this video we will learn four different techniques for creating lick's. We will learn how to bend the strings, how to us hammer on's and pull offs, how to use vibrato and how to slide. These are all important techniques for the beginning guitarist who is learning how to improvise and play licks.

The first solo is from the song "Whole Lotta Love."  Once again Jimmy uses the E minor pentatonic scale with the addition of the flat 5 over two of the licks.  The second solo is from the song "Living Loving Maid." The lick's are taken from the A major pentatonic scale with the exception of the last one which is a strait chromatic run beginning on the ninth fret.

The first riff is from the song "Living Loving Maid" by Led Zeppelin.  He uses the A blues scale for the single note run and then plays an A chord to a D chord and then ends on the A chord. This is one of the easier Jimmy Page riffs and is perfect for the intermediate guitarist. The second Riff is from the song "Heartbreaker".  This riff alternates between the A blues scale and the B blues scale.  The third riff is from the song "Ten Years Gone". This riff incorporated a series of diad's (two notes played at the same time) and is in the key of A. The last riff is from the song "Rock and Roll" and is based on a 12 bar blues riff in A.

He will take you through each of the lick's step by step and very slowly, so don't be intimidated when you first hear the lick.  He makes it easy for anyone trying to learn these difficult techniques.  Rowan got his start with "Ronnie James Dio" . The first set of licks is from the Warren Haynes solo on the song "Blue Sky" An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band. It is in G major pentatonic and he throws in the 4th for some of the licks. The next 4 series of licks are from Dickey Betts.  The first is the intro to "Ramblin Man". The second is from the solo. The third is from the solo on the song "Jessica". This is all E major pentatonic and the fourth is also from the "Jessica' solo.
